Trial - Schwere Kletterpartie

Zwar hatten sich die Trial-Artisten bereits bei diversen Events warm geturnt, doch erst am Osterwochenende kam es im belgischen Engis zu einem Kräftemessen auf höchster Ebene. Welche Konzentration die schwierigen Sektionen forderten, hat unser Fotograf Leo Hauck wie immer eindrucksvoll im Bild festgehalten.
Wenig los war leider in der Klasse Pre 65. Lediglich drei gestartete Teams werfen die Frage auf, ob diese Kategorie überhaupt Fortbestand hat. Dabei gibt es genug Gespanne und genug Fahrer - vor allem in England. Doch scheint den meisten Briten der Weg aufs europäische Festland zu mühsam. Einmal mehr gewann das gemischte Doppel Paul Fishlock/Debbie Merrell vor Ian Hannam/Deborah Smith (beide GB).

| Dagegen gab es in der Modern-Klasse harte Kämpfe. Am Ende erwiesen sich Michael Franken/Timo Fuchs als die nervenstärksten Kletterkünstler. Als zweites deutsches Team plazierte sich das Ehepaar Hans-Werner und Christiane Bauss auf Rang fünf. Die Remscheider waren zwei Wochen zuvor bei einem französischen Meisterschaftslauf gestürzt, wobei der Champion von 2007 sich die Schulter lädierte. |
Doch auch ohne dieses Handicap wäre ein Sieg schwierig geworden. "Michael Franken ist richtig gut in Form und auch die Belgier Benoit und Tania Dreze sind nicht zu unterschätzen. Diese Saison wird richtig schwer", resümiert Bauss, der wie zuvor mit einer Eigenkonstruktion auf Basis einer GasGas antritt. |

15 Sidecar crews from Belgium, France, Germany & England attended rounds 1&2 of Eurocup 2009 at Engis in Belgium. With dry conditions at the start of day 1 a fair course of 6 sections over 4 laps had been set with 4 available routes, although no one took on the hard White route.
A shower of rain at the start of lap 2 soon made things more interesting as the sections greased up, section 3 for the modern class needed full throttle to attack the 2 hills whilst section 5 was the problem for the Pre 65 on a clay downhill.
The modern class had father & daughter Dreze as winners on 17 with current Euro champions Hannam/Pesterfield 18. Pre 65 & 2008 champions Fishlock/Merrel opened 2009 losing 11 with rivals Hannam/Smith on 15. |
Day 2 dry but overcast & 7 new sections, in a different area, to be completed 3 times up to Red route & 4 times for Yellow & White. Hannam/Pesterfield, Michael Franken & Rudy Leclercq opted for the White route which tested all 3 crews with some major “ups & downs”. Rudy looked controlled for a loss of 40, Franken cleared the winter cobwebs on day 1 with a much better ride on 33 & Hannam gained a major confidence boost on 54 while riding with a passenger with a well used bus pass.
The Red route Pre 65 saw Fishlock in a class of his own losing just 1 while Hannam was “stumped” on section 7 every lap & a loss of 22. The Dreze pairing were again best on modern Yellow & Bale/Osborne were winners on the Green route on 22.

Après un long hiver, les sidecars et leurs équipages se retrouvent enfin, à Engis en Belgique le week-end de Pâques. Quinze paniers s’en sont donnés à cœur joie sur un terrain en sous bois où, une fois n’est pas coutume, la pluie était quasi absente et le soleil de la partie.
Six zones abordables le samedi pour se dérouiller et sept zones différentes le dimanche, plus corsées celles-là. En modernes, l’équipage allemand Michael Franken/Timo Fuchs a eu un peu de mal le premier jour en expert pour s’habituer au terrain gras et aux feuilles mortes d’Engis. Au premier tour, la poignée de gaz un peu trop franche, Michael est resté sur place dans la montée de la zone trois, puis a cabré jusqu’à se retourner dans la zone quatre. Le lendemain, au contraire, l’équipage était rodé et a fait merveille en top expert. Troisième derrière les locaux Benoit Drèze et sa fille Tania (1ers) ainsi que les anglais Neil Hannam / Pete Pesterfield (2e) le samedi, l’équipage allemand s’impose avec brio le dimanche devant les belges Rudy Leclercq / Vincent Habran (2e) et le tandem Neil Hannam / Pete Pesterfield (3e). |
Restés en expert le dimanche, les Drèze père et fille s’imposent à nouveau, devant les très sympathiques français Philippe Pilat / André Cornil (2e) et l’équipage franco-belge Marc Leclerc / Kevin Palma (3e).
Chapeau aux équipages pré-65, notamment pour avoir bouclé un interzone particulièrement difficile à certains endroits. Dans cette catégorie reine, deux couples anglais sont en lice : Paul Fishlock / Debbie Merrell (1ers les deux jours) et Ian Hannam / Deborah Smith (2e). Etonnamment, ces gros cubes plutôt patauds ne manquent pas d’adhérence pour qui sait doser la poignée de gaz et charger la roue motrice.
Après ce week-end de mise en jambes, tous repartent radieux et impatient de se retrouver à Gressenich en Allemagne le 30 mai. |
